Back Injury Recovery: What to Do Before Returning to Activity
After a back injury, the goal is not simply to wait for pain to disappear. It is to understand the injury and rebuild function safely.
Rule out urgent concerns
Significant trauma, progressive weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, saddle numbness, fever, or severe unexplained symptoms warrant prompt medical attention.
Restore confidence gradually
Recovery often includes tolerable movement, progressive loading, and clear checkpoints instead of an abrupt return to full activity.
Use evaluation to guide the timeline
An exam can help determine what is safe now, what should wait, and whether chiropractic, rehabilitation, imaging, or specialist input is appropriate.
