Neck Pain: When Is It Time for an Evaluation?

Neck pain is common, but that does not mean every case has the same cause or needs the same care.

Look beyond the pain score

Pay attention to how symptoms affect sleep, driving, work, exercise, and your ability to turn or hold your head comfortably.

Know when to seek prompt care

Seek urgent medical attention after significant trauma or when pain occurs with new weakness, numbness, loss of coordination, severe headache, fever, or other concerning symptoms.

What an evaluation can clarify

A clinician may review your history, examine movement and neurologic function, and determine whether chiropractic care, rehabilitation, imaging, referral, or another pathway is appropriate.
